Man transporting 6 pupils killed in crash

KUALA SELANGOR: A 52-year-old man was killed and six Year 1 pupils injured when the Proton Exora they were travelling in was hit by a Perodua Aruz.

The deceased, identified as Muhamad Zaki Ariffin, was sending the children home from school when the incident occurred in Jalan Saujana Utama here at 1.08pm today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said according to witnesses, the Perodua Aruz had just exited from a road junction and crashed into the Proton Exora.

"The impact caused the Proton Exora to flip and roll onto the road shoulder. Zaki died at the scene. His body was removed from the wreckage and handed over to police.

"The six pupils, four boys and two girls, had minor injuries. Five of them were brought to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

"The Perodua Aruz driver and a passenger escaped unhurt but experienced breathing difficulties. They were also sent to the hospital," he said.

Norazam said more than 10 firefighters from the Bestari Jaya station were involved in the rescue operation, with one Fire Rescue Tender deployed to the scene.
