Daily Covid-19 cases, admissions continue to rise

KUALA LUMPUR: Daily Covid-19 cases continued their steady climb with 2,867 infections reported yesterday (June 30).

Of the fresh cases, four were imported, while the remaining 2,863 cases were local transmissions.

On June 27, 1,894 cases were recorded; 2,025 on June 28; and the daily figure increased to 2,605 on Wednesday.

Since the pandemic began in 2020, 4,566,055 individuals nationwide have been infected with the coronavirus.

Covid-19 hospital admissions also saw an upward trend, with 551 cases being admitted yesterday compared to 522 admissions the previous day.

Of the total, Selangor saw the highest daily admissions yesterday, with 178 Covid-19 cases admitted to hospitals, followed by Johor which saw 92 admissions and Sabah with 80 cases.

In addition 37 coronavirus cases were recorded in Sarawak, 35 in Kedah, 33 in Perak, 25 in Kuala Lumpur, 13 each in Penang and Putrajaya, 10 in Negri Sembilan, nine each in Kelantan and Perlis, eight in Melaka, seven in Pahang and two in Terengganu.

Hospital bed utilisation rates were over 70 per cent in Melaka, Terengganu, Kedah, Johor, Selangor, Perlis, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, Pahang and Sarawak.

As of yesterday, 71.2 per cent of hospital beds nationwide were utilised, 61.5 per cent of intensive care units (ICU) have been occupied as well as 39 per cent of ventilators utilised.

Yesterday, there were 2,145 recoveries from the coronavirus, pushing overall recoveries to 4,500,856.

There were two fatalities registered yesterday, with the overall death toll standing at 35,765.

Currently, 29,434 individuals have been infected with Covid-19 in the country. Of the number, 28,116 cases are undergoing home quarantine, 1,249 are being treated at hospitals, 43 warded at ICUs and 26 at PKRCs.

On ICU cases, 25 patients are ventilated.
