Pregnant woman who died in Baling floods had picked name for child

BALING: Muhammad Aidan. That was the name picked by pregnant Nurul Anis Abu Hassan, 23, if she were to have given birth to a boy.

However, Nurul Anis, who was four months' pregnant, was killed when she was swept away by strong currents when Kampung Iboi was hit by the worst floods in its history on Monday.

Her mother-in-law, Salmah Mat Akib, 53, and her brother-in-law Khairul Ikhwan Nor Azman, 14, also died in the incident.

Her husband, Khairul Asyraf Nor Azman, 24, said: "My wife had picked the name although we had not gotten a chance to confirm the gender of our first child."

He said Anis was excited to learn that she was pregnant soon after they got married in February.

"She was really happy and could not wait to deliver our child."

Khairul added that Anis was a devoted wife and had cared for his ailing mother, who had suffered a stroke a year ago.

"She was a homemaker, so she volunteered to look after my mother since I work in Penang," he said at the Surau Al-Istiqamah cemetery in Kampung Charuk Bemban Dalam in Kupang here today.

The 5.30pm floods, triggered by a water column phenomenon in Lata Celak in Kampung Iboi, destroyed 15 houses and caused massive damage in 12 villages.
