380 bulldozers, lorries in Kupang clean-up

BALING: Over 380 heavy work machines and lorries helped clean up areas affected by the Monday floods in Kupang.

Chairman of the Malaysian Land Pilots Coalition (GPDM) Baling District, Mohammad Aminuddin Abdul Wahab, said owners and drivers of bulldozers and lorries involved in the clean-up operations in Kupang earlier also helped evacuate victims, apart from cleaning up flood debris at the collapsed bridge in Sungai Lata Celak.

"Post-flood missions include cleaning public facilities such as schools, suraus, mosques and houses of victims.

"The association has 150 members who are carrying out post -flood operations. They are doing it voluntarily with no payment," he said.

He said help for flood victim evacuation and clean-up operations involved GPDM members from Pendang, Sungai Petani, Sik, Kuala Nerang, Yan, Perlis and Penang.

"A total 300 lorries, 80 bulldozers involving 400 volunteers carried out the tasks," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Zone 3 Fire Safety Branch, Kedah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Fire Superintendent Mohamad Sofi Abdul Wahab, said GPDM's involvement helped a lot in evacuation operations and post-flood clean-up.

"We thank those involved for helping the people affected by the disaster," he said.
