3,880 new Covid-19 infections, 14 deaths on Friday

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia logged 3,880 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases 4,644,115 since the pandemic struck in 2020.

There were 4,587 new cases on Thursday, which showed a slight decrease from 5,685 infections the previous day.

According to data from the Health Ministry's CovidNow and Github, of the fresh cases, 3,873 were local transmissions while seven were imported.

Kuala Lumpur topped the list with 1,283 new cases, followed by Selangor with 857.

There were 326 cases in Perak, 252 in Negri Sembilan, 242 in Sabah, 201 in Penang, 137 in Melaka, 132 in Johor, 115 in Kedah, and 82 in Putrajaya, 69 in Kelantan, 61 in Pahang, 52 in Sarawak and 35 in Terengganu.

Labuan and Perlis reported 29 and seven new cases, respectively.

Another 14 deaths were reported yesterday, including three brought in-dead (BID) cases, pushing the country's death toll to 35,902.

Of the total fatalities, 7,622 were BID.

The Health Ministry also reported another 2,607 recoveries from the coronavirus yesterday.

As of yesterday, Covid-19 active cases nationwide stood at 48,668.

Of the total, 47,139 individuals were placed under home quarantine and 1,447 patients hospitalised. 50 patients were admitted to intensive care units (ICU) with 22 requiring ventilator support. 32 patients were placed at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC).

Currently, the utilisation rate of hospital beds nationwide for Covid-19 treatment stood at 71.5 per cent, followed by ICUs at 61.6 per cent, ventilators at 42.9 per cent and PKRCs at 26.2 per cent.

Meanwhile, on vaccination progress, 1,468,088 children aged five to 11 have been fully vaccinated under the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids).

As for adolescents aged 12 to 17, a total of 2,888,998 have received two doses of the vaccine.

A total of 45,290 adolescents have also received their first booster dose.

As for adults aged 18 and above, 16,126,835 have received their first booster dose as of yesterday; while another 268,562 have received their second booster dose.

On the elderly aged 60 and above, a total of 2,579,865 have received their first booster dose and 130,701 have received their second booster dose.

Yesterday, 22,227 vaccine doses were administered, with 641 as the first dose, 8,807 for the second dose, and 1,446 and 11,333 as first and second booster doses respectively, bringing the total number of vaccine doses administered under the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP) to 71,695,526.
