BAGAN SERAI: One person was killed and nine others were seriously injured after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned following a tyre blowout at KM178.7 of the North-South Expressway here today.
A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said they were alerted to the incident at 6.22pm.
"The accident involved a Toyota Hiace van which was ferrying 10 people.
"It is learnt that the tyre burst, causing the van to swerve out of control before overturning," he said.
The spokesperson said the injured victims were taken to the Taiping Hospital for further treatment.
"The deceased body has been handed over to the police and was taken to the same hospital for post-mortem," he said, adding that the operation ended at 7.56pm.
According to the PLUS Traffic info Twitter, as of 8pm, traffic on the accident stretch was reported to be congested, with traffic crawling for 9km from Bandar Baharu to Alor Pongsu.
