ALOR STAR: Several areas in Kota Setar and Sungai Petani were affected by the major power outage at noon today.
In Kota Setar, counter services at the Road Transport Department (RTD) branch in Suka Menanti here were disrupted.
The department in a Facebook posting informed its customers that counter services were down due to the electricity supply disruption.
"RTD Kedah (Suka Menanti) is having power supply disruption for now. Repair work is ongoing.
"As such, all over the counter services at RTD Suka Menanti are not available for now. We express our regret for the inconvenience caused," read the statement which was uploaded at about 1pm.
However, no other report on major power outage was reported in other locations in Kota Setar.
Meanwhile in Sungai Petani, it is learnt that several areas were affected by the incident.
Some social media users uploaded postings on traffic lights in the district being out of order.
Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) in a statement today said the outage hit some parts of the Peninsular at 12.39pm involving 2.2GW, which was 10 per cent of the total supply demand.
Among the affected areas were Petaling Jaya, Cheras, Bangi, Bayan Lepas, Seberang Jaya, Panchor and Bandar Indera Mahkota.
