Boy dies six hours after being found floating in homestay pool

KUALA KANGSAR: Efforts to save a 4-year-old boy who was found floating face down in a homestay swimming pool here proved futile as he died six hours later in hospital.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Omar Bakhtiar Yaakob said police were informed by the homestay owner that there was a drowning incident involving a 4-year-old boy at 9.14pm yesterday.

Omar Bakhtiar said the victim's father saw his son playing with his relatives by the pool at 6pm.

"The father then went into the house to prepare a meal. However, at about 6.30pm, the boy's mother found him lying face down in the pool."

Omar Bakhtiar said the victim was taken to the Kuala Kangsar Hospital before being transferred to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) that same day for further treatment.

"However, the victim was pronounced dead at 1.10am today at HRPB. A post-mortem examination found that the victim died due to 'post-drowning'. There was no injury on his body.

"The case has been classified as sudden death," he said adding that those with information on the incident could contact Kuala Kangsar police headquarters at 05-7762222.
