Coronavirus recovery rate surpasses new infections

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's single day Covid-19 recovery rate on Sunday (Aug 7) surpassed new coronavirus infections.

The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 3,856 patients recovered from the coronavirus compared to 2,728 fresh cases involving the coronavirus, which also saw it drop from last Saturday's 4,684 infections.

Of the fresh infections, only two were imported. The latest tally takes the cumulative caseload to 4,708,552 infections since the pandemic began in 2020.

Selangor registered the most cases with 749 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 575 and 265 in Sabah.

Several indicators of the nation's Covid-19 situation also registered a drop in numbers.

The number of active cases dipped by 1,134 to 45,770 while those being treated in intensive care units was 52, down from 56 the day before. Most of them were patients in the Klang Valley.

Six deaths were reported, dipping from the previous 11, taking the total fatalities from the coronavirus to 36,026 so far.

There were 44,159 patients being home quarantined, 30 placed at low risk Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres, while 1,529 were hospitalised.
