3,083 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, 12 deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: The country recorded 3,083 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (Aug 9), a slight increase from the 2,863 infections reported to the Health Ministry a day before.

Three were imported cases and the others were local transmissions.

This brings the cumulative Covid-19 cases to 4,676,518 since the start of the pandemic, according to the ministry's CovidNow portal.

Almost half of the new cases were detected in the Klang Valley with the highest or 773 cases reported in Kuala Lumpur, followed by 605 cases in Selangor.

Three-digit number of cases were also reported in Sabah (258), Perak (248), Negeri Sembilan (240), Kedah (160), Melaka (130), Sarawak (122) and Penang (117).

Twelve fatalities were recorded, bringing the country's Covid-19 death toll to 36,044. Three were brought-in-dead cases.

With 4,229 recoveries, there are 42,717 active Covid-19 cases as of Tuesday.

Out of this, 96.1 per cent or 41,042 people are placed under home quarantine, 1,578 are receiving treatment at health facilities across the country and 62 patients are being treated in the intensive care units including 35 on ventilator.

The remaining 35 patients are placed at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC).
