State govt mulls action over Kedah Fashion Week blunder

ALOR STAR: The state government is mulling action against those behind the fashion blunder at the Kedah Fashion Week 2022 (KFW22).

State Health and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Hayati Othman said based on initial investigations, the individual who was in the viral pictures was a guest at the event and not one of the models.

"The individual is a transgender person who posed for photos in an inappropriate attire and uploaded them on social media," he said in a statement today.

"The individual was not a participant in the event, but came in a personal capacity at the end of the event."

The statement was issued after the Aman Central mall management, Alor Star City Council and Kota Setar District Office were summoned for explanations.

He said the state would take action based on existing regulations and law.

He added that the state was also mulling the enhancement of by-laws related to entertainment and shows to reflect Kedah's culture and norms.

Earlier, organiser Aman Central issued an apology over the guest's attire.

Pictures of the unidentified guest have gone viral on social media since yesterday.

The individual wore a green blazer with the buttons left opened, exposing the chest and abdomen that appeared to be covered by a see-through shirt.

The mall's management acknowledged that the viral pictures of a KFW22 guest and said they did not "reflect the image it sought to promote".
