Covid-19: Higher recoveries recorded on Sunday

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia logged 4,226 Covid-19 recoveries on Sunday, higher than the 3,045 fresh infections reported on the same day.

New cases decreased more than 1,000 compared to the 4,334 infections reported on Aug 13.

Selangor had the highest fresh daily cases with 1,061 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 619 cases and Sabah logged 259 cases.

Other states with three-digit cases were Perak with 221 cases, Negri Sembilan (195), Penang (119) and Melaka (108).

Also reported to the Health Ministry were five deaths – three in Kedah and one each in Johor and Perak.

Active cases reduced to 43,431 yesterday.

Of the active cases, 1,567 are receiving treatment at hospitals, 72 are warded at intensive care units in which 46 are put on ventilators, 33 are being monitored at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres while the rest are being isolated at home.

Hospitals received 454 admissions yesterday.

The Health Ministry also detected a new cluster, the Solok Bunga Pudak cluster, at the Timur Laut district of Penang yesterday.

This new high-risk group cluster has a 53.8 per cent positivity rate and to date, 14 cases are linked to this cluster.

Meanwhile, 1.3 per cent of the population – 418,748 people – have received a second booster jab.

Of the second dose booster recipients, 171,158 are those aged 60-years-old and above; 247,321 are adults aged 18 to 59-years-old, 268 are adolescents aged 12 to 17, and one child.
