KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia logged 2,437 new Covid-19 cases yesterday (Aug 15), indicating a significant drop compared to 4,226 infections on Sunday (Aug 14).
This brings the country's cumulative infections to 4,737,984 cases, according to the Health Ministry's CovidNow data.
Of the new cases, 2,431 were local transmissions and six others were imported cases.
Most of the states logged three-digit daily cases with Kuala Lumpur topping the list at 560 cases, followed by Selangor at 491 cases, Sabah at 252 cases, Perak at 172 cases, and Negri Sembilan at 162 cases.
Other states with three-digit infections were Johor with 135 cases, Kelantan at 119 cases, and Melaka with 106 cases
Authorities had also recorded 3,658 recoveries which brings the country' recovery tally to 4,659,688.
According to CovidNow, 42,203 active cases were reported as of yesterday with 40,525 people placed under home quarantine and 31 others treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.
The portal also reported 1,566 hospitalised patients with 31 placed in intensive care units and another 50 requiring ventilator support.
Eight patients had succumbed to the virus, including two brought-in-dead cases.
Johor, Perak, and Melaka reported two deaths each followed by one death each in Penang and Pahang.
The total number of deaths now stood at 36,093 cases.
