Trailer lorry plunges off flyover; driver escapes with minor injuries

IPOH: A trailer lorry fell off a flyover and crashed about 10m onto the busy Jalan Kuala Kangsar here today.

Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in the 12.28pm incident and the driver of the lorry sustained only minor injuries.

Acting Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said police believed that brake failure caused the lorry to skid, leading to it plunging off the flyover.

"The 50-year-old trailer lorry driver from Penang suffered minor injuries," he said in a statement today.

A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they were alerted to the incident at 2.30pm.

"A team of firemen from Ipoh was despatched to the scene. When they reached, they saw that the driver had gotten out of the vehicle."

The accident caused massive traffic congestion from Ipoh to Tasek and vice versa as the process of removing the trailer lorry got underway.
