Najib pens heartfelt note for family

KUALA LUMPUR: In a moving note penned for his family members before starting his jail sentence, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he has no regrets continuing the legacy of his father, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, who is Malaysia's second prime minister.

The Pekan member of parliament, who was the country's sixth prime minister, described his political journey as somewhat joyous, made happier with the presence of his family members.

The Barisan Nasional advisory council chairman said his only regret was that he had overlooked his family and was not always there for them.

The note, which was shared on his official Facebook account, begin with Najib addressing his family, children and grandchildren:

"My family, my love.
"Forty-six years is long time. I had chosen to the inherit the legacy left behind by 'nenda' (Abdul Razak) and continue the efforts that was previously championed by 'nenda'.
"Daddy (Najib) had chosen this career. The political world and that of the public service has its advantages and shortcomings.
"From planning development, formulating welfare-centric policies, managing the economy, strengthening international ties to solving crises… these challenges which produced good outcomes brought smiles to Daddy,"
the posting said.

He also admitted that there were occasions that his efforts did not produce the expected outcome but he had nevertheless continued to persevere.

"Looking back, it is a big sacrifice. Years and time gone by immediately. From the dawn of the day to the late nights, there were always matters which required attention.
"My years have gone by dedicated to the people, public service, (and) politics. A sacrifice I chose and I made.
"A journey that was joyous with your presence but unfortunately, I overlooked and could not always be there for you," he said.

Despite the sombre and challenging journey in his political career, Najib said the path was graced by the unconditional presence and support from his family members.

"My family, my love. I can only be here with you until now. Daddy holds strongly to the teaching of Islam.
"If it was fated that such a journey and challenges come from Allah, what more can Daddy do, who is only human and is the servant (of Allah).
"Waiting for justice and judgment from the courts in the afterlife. This is only the temporary world that we are living in, we will be awoken in the afterlife, and together we will return to embrace joy once again in the afterlife.
"May Allah protect and bless our family with good health and wellbeing, always and forever."

The Federal Court yesterday upheld Najib's conviction and 12-year prison sentence as well as a fine of RM210 million for misappropriating RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.
