Ministry offers 1,347 medical officers scholarships for specialist training

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,347 medical officers have been granted scholarships to pursue specialist training for the 2022/2023 session.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said 1,232 officers were offered master's in medicine, 54 were offered master's in dentistry, and 61 were placed in a parallel pathway programme.

"This includes 216 contract officers. This is the first time contract officers were awarded scholarships for master's training since the programme was established in 2016.

"This is as per my commitment to solve the contract doctor issue," he said in a statement today.

He said officers could check the results at http://ehlp.moh.gov.my/.

He added that applications for the 2023/2024 session would be open in October.

In September last year, Khairy told the Dewan Rakyat that the Health Ministry was looking into allowing contract medical officers to pursue specialist training with a study facility equivalent to the Federal Training Prize that was only made available to permanent medical officers.
