2,328 new Covid-19 cases and nine deaths on Friday

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia reported another 2,328 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the tally to 4,787,308.

According to data from the Health Ministry's CovidNow, of the new cases, 2,325 were local transmissions while three were imported.

Selangor topped the list with 715 new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 415.

Sabah reported 205 cases, 175 in Perak, 140 in Sarawak, 125 in Negri Sembilan, 109 in Melaka, 87 in Kedah, 76 in Kelantan, 75 in Penang, 66 in Johor, 55 in Pahang, 36 in Putrajaya and 34 in Terengganu.

Perlis and Labuan reported nine and six new cases respectively.

Another nine deaths were reported yesterday, including three brought-in-dead (BID), pushing the country's cumulative death toll to 36,234.

The deaths were reported in Johor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak and Selangor.

The Health Ministry also reported another 2,618 recoveries yesterday.

As of yesterday, the number of Covid-19 active cases nationwide stood at 31,164.

Of the total, 29,761 individuals, were placed under home quarantine, 1,305 patients were hospitalised with 44 being ventilated and treated in intensive care units (ICU) and another 35 not ventilated.

The remaining 19 patients were placed at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC).

Currently, the utilisation rate of hospital beds nationwide for Covid-19 treatment purposes stood at 68.8 per cent, followed by ICU at 63.9 per cent, 39.1 per cent for ventilators and 24.8 per cent for PKRCs.

On vaccination progress, 1,529,279 children aged five to 11 have been fully vaccinated under the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids).

According to the portal, 1,772,288 children have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while another 1,197 have received their booster dose.

As for adolescents aged 12 to 17, 2,873,883 had received two doses and 2,949,890 received at least one dose of the vaccine.

A total 46,558 have received their first booster dose.

As for the adults aged 18 and above, 470,696 had received their second booster dose as of yesterday; while another 16,171,793 received their first booster dose.

There are 2,592,704 from the elderly segment or those aged 60 and above who have received their booster dose and 181,428 received their second booster dose.

Yesterday, 4,784 vaccine doses were administered, with 402 as the first dose, 743 as the second dose, and 888 and 2,751 as first and second booster doses respectively, bringing the total number of vaccine doses administered under the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme to 72,061,402.
