Covid-19 cases continue to climb, seven deaths reported

KUALA LUMPUR: The country's daily Covid-19 cases continued to climb to 2,428 yesterday (Sept 7), bringing the cumulative caseload to 4,797,437.

Daily Covid-19 cases have been steadily increasing since Tuesday with 2,067 cases.

The country's daily cases had remained below the 2,000-mark with 1,904 cases on Sunday and 1,486 on Monday.

The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported Selangor had the highest number of fresh Covid-19 infections at 868 followed by Kuala Lumpur with 429 cases and Perak had 194 cases.

The portal also reported 27,076 active cases yesterday with 25,650 placed under home quarantine and 18 cases monitored at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres.

Of the 1,341 hospitalised patients, 67 of them are warded at intensive care units (ICU).

As of yesterday, 38 patients in the ICU needed ventilator support.

Selangor also had the highest number of admissions yesterday with 104 cases followed by Sabah at 84 and Johor with 67 cases.

The ministry recorded seven Covid-19 fatalities yesterday, of which two were classified as brought-in-dead cases.

Johor and Selangor each had two fatalities yesterday, followed by one death each in Pahang, Perak and Sabah.

As of Sept 7, Covid-19 fatalities in Malaysia stood at 36,262 since the pandemic hit two years ago.

Malaysia also recorded 2,673 recoveries yesterday, taking the cumulative total recoveries to 4,734,099.
