Rina: Muda's input on addressing sexual offences against children welcome

PUTRAJAYA: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry welcomes suggestions from the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) to address sexual offences against children.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Rina Harun, said the ministry had been working with relevant ministries and agencies including the Home Ministry, CyberSecurity Malaysia and the police to address the issue.

"We have also helped to further empower the federal police's Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division (D11), with an additional 100 police personnel.

"At the same time, we have also intensified our advocacy and awareness programmes.

"Let's work together and reduce politicking.

"If Muda has suggestions, come and discuss it with the ministry," she said after the launch of the National Reproductive Health Education and Social (Pekerti) Policy and Action Plan 2022-2025 today.

Rina was responding to criticism from Muda women leaders who allegedly said that Rina was not serious in addressing sexual crimes against children.

Rina also said the newly-launched policy and action plan sought to empower reproductive education to produce knowledgeable young individuals and curb social ills.

The five thrusts under the policy and action plan, she said, were advocacy, promotion and prevention; comprehensive social and reproductive health education (SHRE) for all ages; human capital development and other sources for SHRE; research and development, and monitoring and evaluation.

The policy and action plan was approved by the cabinet on April 27 and took into account elements of Malaysian diversity.

It was also in line with the target of Sustainable Development Goal 5 to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
