NRC to provide input on nation transiting into endemic phase

PAGOH: The National Recovery Council (NRC) is committed to providing its input to the government in transiting the country into the endemic phase, following the relaxation of standard operating procedures.

Its chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said among the responsibilities of NRC was to provide views and recommendations based on the facts available to the government.

"Perhaps, in the next meeting the main agenda is to present the Covid-19 report and will consider various angles and make recommendations to the government.

"However, the NRC can only give views and recommendations, but it is up to the Health Ministry and the government to decide," he said.

Muhyiddin said this during a press conference after Program Ziarah Prihatin Komuniti Cina at Pekan Lenga here today.

He said the Health Ministry should decide based on scientific data and facts.

"Now there is more freedom and relaxations and the data shows that Covid-19 cases are showing a downward trend.

"The ministry can provide consideration but the most important thing is that most or almost all economic, social and educational sectors are now back to normal," he said.

He said many sectors have been reopened, which is a sign that the country can move to a full endemic phase.

"The NRC will hand it over to the experts, so they will advise the government to announce that the time has come for the country to return to normalcy.

"The most important thing is to recover from the economic point of view and that needs to be the primary focus of the government at the moment," he said.
