Covid-19 infections drop below the 2,000 mark

KUALA LUMPUR: The country's daily Covid-19 cases dipped to 1,990 on Friday (Sept 9), bringing the cumulative total to 4,801,653.

Since Tuesday, Malaysia reported daily Covid-19 cases above the 2,000 mark at 2,067, followed by Wednesday (Sept 7) at 2,428 and Thursday (Sept 8) at 2,226.

The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that of the total daily infections, two were imported cases.

Selangor and Kuala Lumpur recorded the highest daily infections at 500 and 454 cases respectively.

Active Covid-19 cases now stood at 27,370 with 95 per cent or 26,007 people placed under home quarantine and nine patients admitted at Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centres (PKRC).

The portal also reported 1,287 Covid-19 patients who were hospitalised, of which 67 were admitted to intensive care units (ICU).

Currently, 46 patients are placed under ventilator support.

Selangor reported the highest number of admissions on Friday, at 110 followed by Sabah at 91 and 52 in Johor.

CovidNow recorded four Covid-19 deaths nationwide as of yesterday - one each in Negri Sembilan, Perak Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur.

Total deaths recorded are now at 36,274.
