Covid-19: Slight increase in new infections

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia logged another 1,942 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, a slight increase from Monday's (Sept 12) 1,847 cases.

The country's cumulative caseload from the coronavirus now stands at 4,808,896 cases.

Based on the Health Ministry's CovidNow portal, 1,933 of the fresh infections were local transmissions while another nine were imported.

Selangor tops the list once again with 468 cases, followed by other states reporting three-digit cases including Kuala Lumpur at 389 cases, Perak at 171 cases, Sabah at 151 cases, Sarawak at 145 cases, Negeri Sembilan at 104 cases, and Kedah at 100 cases.

States with two-digit cases were Johor with 82 cases, Pulau Pinang (68 cases), Melaka (64 cases), Kelantan (68 cases), Terengganu (40 cases), and Putrajaya (32 cases).

Meanwhile, Perlis and Labuan recorded seven and eight cases respectively.

The Health Ministry also recorded 2,276 recoveries, which pushed the recovery tally to 4,746,912.

Based on the CovidNow portal, there was a slight decrease in active cases with 25,693 reported yesterday.

Of these active cases, 24,431 were placed under home quarantine, and another 11 were treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC).

The portal also reported that 1,189 patients were hospitalised with 39 of them requiring ventilator support and treated in intensive care units (ICU), while another 23 were not ventilated.

Another six patients had succumbed to the virus, pushing the cumulative death cases to 36,391.
