UiTM alumni express concern over criminal case against Edge editor

SHAH ALAM: Universiti Teknologi Mara Communication and Media Studies alumni today expressed their concern over a recent case involving The Edge former group editor Ahmad Azam Mohd Aris

Its president, Basree Rakijan, said Azam had served the media with professionalism and integrity.

"As his alumni, we can vouch for his uprightness, and his unblemished reputation is known in the financial circles.

"We are in disbelief that he has been charged for reporting what he considered an unusual trend in penny stocks.

"To penalise Azam for highlighting this is akin to shooting the messenger instead of investigating the veracity of the message," he said in a statement.

The alumni urged the authorities to examine the matter without any bias to ensure Azam would get a fair hearing.

Azam has been charged with tarnishing the reputation of Metronic Global Bhd non-executive director Datuk Kua Khai Shyuan, DGB Asia Bhd, Trive Property Group Bhd, Metronic Global Bhd and MNC Wireless Bhd
