KERIAN: Three people, including two Thais, were injured in an accident involving three vehicles at Km178.5 of the North-South Expressway (northbound) near Alor Pongsu, here, today.

Saifud-Deen Esor, 34, and Hadibah Dooneedae, 33, both from Thailand, and Mohamad Amin Awang, 28, from Tumpat, Kelantan, were travelling in a Honda Civic.

District police chief Superintendent Mazuki Mat said initial investigations showed that the three vehicles were heading towards Penang from Taiping during the 11am incident.

The driver of a Perodua MyVi had lost control of his car. A lorry, which was behind the MyVi, managed to brake on time.

"However, the driver of another car (Honda Civic) could not brake on time and lost control of the vehicle. It crashed into the rear of the lorry, causing it to land on its side.

"All the victims were taken to Parit Buntar Hospital for treatment," Mazuki said today.

The case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and reckless driving.
