KUALA LUMPUR: The 2023 Budget due to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat next week may need to be retabled if Parliament is dissolved before it is passed in the House.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun said once Parliament was dissolved and a new government was formed, the new federal administration would have to restart the entire process of tabling the budget.
"If the election is held before (the 2023 Budget is passed), there will be the formation of a new government. With a new government, the budget has to be retabled for the first reading.
"This is because this (upcoming) budget is not binding on a new government," he said at the Parliament building here today.
The 2023 Budget is scheduled to be tabled for its second reading next Friday and the first reading would be on Wednesday, Azhar said.
Asked about the dissolution of Parliament, Azhar said he was not privy to the matter.
