Malaysia to undergo monsoon transition phase from Oct 3 to end November

KUALA LUMPUR: The country will go through a monsoon transition phase, starting Oct 3 until the end of November, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said today.

MetMalaysia director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said the monsoon transition phase also marked the end of the southwest monsoon that began on May 14.

"During the monsoon transition phase, the country will experience light winds from various directions that could trigger thunderstorms that is usually accompanied by heavy rains and strong winds for a short while.

"Such incidents will be more prominent during the evenings and early hours of the night in the west coast states and the interior parts of the Peninsular, west coast of Sabah and central parts of Sarawak.

"This weather pattern could potentially trigger flash floods and damage unstable structures," he said in a statement today.

Helmi also advised the public to be more cautious during the monsoon transition phase and regularly check for the latest weather updates issued by the department through its official website, the myCuaca app or through its official social media handles.
