Anwar submits motion to debate national economic woes

KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has submitted a motion to debate the country's economic woes, including the price hike of goods and the ringgit's decline against the US dollar, in the upcoming Dewan Rakyat sitting.

Anwar submitted the motion to Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun under the Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders 18(1) and 18(2) earlier today.

"This debate should be expedited because the drastic rise in the prices of goods and the weakening ringgit directly hurts the people, both in the short-term and in the long-term.

"Therefore, I hope the motion will receive due consideration from the Speaker," he posted on Facebook today.

The Dewan Rakyat will convene on Oct 3 and the 2023 Budget is set to be tabled on Oct 7.
