Ministry announces new cooking oil prices

KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry today announced the new retail prices for cooking oil effective from Oct 8 until Nov 7.

Its minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said this was following the government's commitment to address the rising prices of cooking oil from one kilogram to five kilograms per bottle.

He said the retail price for 1kg bottle would be RM7.10, 2kg RM13.50, 3kg RM19.90 and 5kg RM31.50.

"Actions will taken and penalties will be issues to those who sell the cooking oil beyond the maximum prices where an individual could be fined up to RM100,000 or imprisoned not more than three years or both while companies can be fined up to RM500,000.

"The ministry also encourage consumers to be the eyes and ears for the government to channel information related to violations of the law under our jurisdiction including the retail price of pure palm cooking oil in the market officially through several channels.

"This can be done through either the e-aduan.kpdnhep website, call 1-800-886-800, send an e-mail to e-aduan@kpdnhep.gov.my, Ez ADU KPDNHEP (mobile application), call 03-8882 6088/6245 or via Whatsapp at 019- 279 4317/019-848 8000," he said during a press conference at the Parliament building here today.
