12 schoolkids injured in van crash on SKVE

SEPANG: Twelve primary school students were injured when the van they were in rammed into the road divider at Km6.7 of the South Klang Valley Expressway today.

Two of the children were warded at the Serdang Hospital red zone, another four in the yellow zone and the remaining six given outpatient treatment.

They suffered multiple injuries, including fractures to the head, arms and legs.

Also injured was the 35-year-old van driver, who suffered a broken leg.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the school van which was on its way from Kajang towards the Ayer Hitam toll plaza had suddenly gone out of control and crashed into the road divider in the 2pm.

"The driver of the van is believed to have lost control of the van, before it crashed into the road divider," he said in a statement.

Preliminary investigations showed that the students, all from SJKT Serdang were on their way home when the incident occurred.

Wan Kamarul Azran said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
