PM arrives at Istana Negara [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has arrived at Istana Negara for an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

A vehicle, carrying Ismail Sabri was spotted entering the palace main gate at 3.48pm.

The Bera Member of Parliament wound down his car window and waved at members of the press who were waiting outside Istana Negara since morning.

Earlier today, the New Straits Times learnt that Ismail Sabri's audience with the King today would centre on the weekly pre-cabinet session briefing as well as on the 2023 Budget, which will be tabled tomorrow.

It, however, could not be confirmed if Ismail Sabri would also propose a date for the dissolution of parliament during his audience with the King.

The Umno Supreme Council had on Friday (Sept 30) decided that it was best for the 15th General Election (GE15) to be held this year.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the supreme council had insisted that Parliament must be dissolved as soon as possible.

Several political parties had objected to the decision, including DAP, which described the move as undermining the King's discretionary power in the matter of dissolving Parliament as well as disrespecting the Federal Constitution.

Others also objected to GE15 being held this year with the monsoon season fast approaching and floods likely to strike several states.
