Ismail Sabri: Government intact with majority support [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The federal government is still intact, commanding the support of a majority of Dewan Rakyat lawmakers, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

This was despite the recent move by 12 Perikatan Nasional ministers sending a letter to the Agong expressing their disagreement for Parliament to be dissolved to pave the way for the 15th General Election (GE15).

Ismail Sabri said the government was formed with support from 12 or more members of parliament (MPs), in accordance to provisions stated in the Federal Constitution.

"If the MPs are still supporting the government, there's no such thing as it falling.

"As for the dissolution of Parliament, please wait for the announcement.

"There will be speculation (on GE15), no matter what I say," he said after attending the national-level 2022 (1444H) Maulidur Rasul celebration held at the World Trade Centre today.

Ismail Sabri refused to confirm or deny whether the dissolution of Parliament would happen before the 2023 Budget was passed.

"This question, even if I answer, will only lead to new speculation. Please wait."

Ismail Sabri had an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Thursday for the weekly pre-Cabinet meeting at Istana Negara.

Apart from the 2023 Budget, the prime minister was also rumoured to have advised the King on the dissolution of Parliament.
