MMA provides free basic health screening for public on Doctors' Day

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Medical Association is providing free basic health screening to the public as part of its corporate social responsibility programme on Doctors' Day.

The health screening will be available for everyone on Oct 10 from 9am to 5pm at the car park of its headquarters located at 124, Jalan Pahang, Titiwangsa Sentral, Kuala Lumpur.

Its president Dr Muruga Raj Rajathurai said the public can take advantage of the free health screening services provided to get an update on their health status.

"The medical check-ups provided include Funduscopy, Lipid Profile, electrocardiogram, hemoglobin A1c test, Breast Ultrasound and blood test.

"For the first 100 to register themselves, they will each get a free comprehensive blood test. Those wishing to make blood donations may also do so at the event.

"The Doctor's Day event will see close to 100 doctors from the public and private healthcare sectors conducting medical check-ups," he said in a statement.

Dr. Muruga said more emphasis needs to be given to prevention as many diseases can be difficult to treat when they are detected late.

"Not only are medical check-ups beneficial for health, it can even be life saving for some individuals as better outcomes can be achieved if we are aware of our health status as early as possible.

"Through these initiatives, we hope to convey the message that scheduled medical check-ups are an important pillar to achieving and maintaining good health," he said.

Doctor's Day is celebrated to recognise the contributions by doctors to individual lives and communities.

Malaysia celebrates Doctors' Day on Oct 10 with the theme Navigating Healthcare from Treatment to Prevention.
