Agong grants farewell audience to Saudi, Qatar envoys

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Riayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today granted an audience to two foreign ambassadors at Istana Negara here, who will be ending their term in Malaysia this year.

The two are Saudi Arabia ambassador to Malaysia Datuk Dr Mahmoud Hussein Saeed Qattan and his counterpart from Qatar, Fahad Mohammed Kafoud, who appeared before the king separately. Their audience started at 11am, with Mahmoud Hussein going first, followed by Fahad Mohammed.

Mahmoud Hussein started his term in Malaysia in April 2017 and it would be ending this Oct 21. Fahad Mohammed, meanwhile, had been in the country since November 2018 and would end his term on Nov 4.

Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong expressed appreciation to both ambassadors for their role in strengthening bilateral relations between their respective countries and Malaysia.

"His Majesty also stated that both countries were close and important friends of Malaysia, and was also happy with the strong bilateral and diplomatic relations at various levels, especially from economic aspects," he said in a statement.--Bernama
