Over 50,000 applications for Peranti Siswa tablets approved in northern region

GEORGE TOWN: A total of 50,667 applications for the Keluarga Malaysia Peranti Siswa tablets have been approved for students at institutions of higher learning in the northern region.

Caretaker Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the number represented 54 per cent of the 87,222 applications received in Penang, Perak, Kedah and Perlis as of Oct 18.

She said this at an event to hand over Keluarga Malaysia Peranti Siswa tablets to 50 students at the Balik Pulau Polytechnic here.

The students were from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Arau, UiTM Merbok, UiTM Permatang Pauh, Balik Pulau Polytechnic, Seberang Prai Polytechnic and Cosmopoint College Penang branch.

Noraini also launched the state-level Program Kembara Keluarga Simpan SSPN 2022 and presented the SSPN Prime Savings Account contribution.

Noraini said the Kembara Keluarga Simpan programme was aimed at helping poor students and to raise awareness of saving.

"This programme involves 17,800 poor students in 178 areas in 12 states. The contribution is in the form of a SSPN Prime savings account involving a total of RM1.78 million."
