Van rams into pole, 10 injured

JURU: Three people were seriously injured when the van they were travelling in skidded and rammed into a pole early this morning.

The Sungai Bakap fire and rescue station was alerted to the incident at about 6.38am at Km151.4 of the North South Expressway (NSE) near Bukit Tambun - Juru, here.

Operation officer Azhar Samsudin said when they arrived at the scene, they found the accident as reported involving a van which skidded and rammed into a pole.

"The driver was pinned to his seat. We had to use rescue tools to free him.

"The driver, along with two other passengers, including a woman, sustained fractures.

"Another seven passengers, all women, escaped with minor injuries," he said.

The identities of the victims are not immediately available.

Azhar said the victims were given initial treatment by paramedics at the scene.

All of them were then sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for further treatment.

The operation ended at about 7.47am.

The accident resulted in several kilometres of traffic congestion.

Jawi assemblyman Jason Hng took to Facebook to advise motorists to use alternative routes.
