Khairy: SOP for Covid-19 safe GE to be finalised this week

PETALING JAYA: The standard operating procedure (SOP) recommended by the Health Ministry for a "Covid-19 safe" general election will be finalised this week.

Caretaker Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said there were a few matters that needed to be looked at in the recommendations shared by the ministry with the Election Commission (EC).

"The SOP is still under discussion. After receiving feedback from the EC, there are several recommendations that they could commit to, but some are quite difficult (for them).

"With that, we'll share our feedback and finalise the SOP with them in a day or two," he said after officiating the Commonwealth and 4th Global 2022 Wound Conference today.

On Oct 11, the Health Ministry presented several SOP recommendations to the EC for the 15th General Election to be "Covid-19 safe".

Among the recommendations were for a different lane and voting channel for Covid-19 positive voters, said Khairy.

He added that with the country's Covid-19 situation under control, his ministry was of the view that some of the restrictions imposed in past state elections could be relaxed, including the wearing of face masks and the right to vote for individuals tested positive for Covid-19.
