Nur Haisha's 44-day hospitalisation leads to hole-in-the-heart diagnosis

KUALA LUMPUR: Doctors had noticed that Nur Haisha Mikayla Mufrin was smaller than she should have been when her mother Norhuda Abd Rajak was seven months pregnant.

After she was born Nur Haisha was kept under observation for 44 days at Tunku Azizah Hospital (HTA) and doctors found she had Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) or hole in the heart.

Nur Haisha is a year old now and has been in and out of hospital. She suffers from shortness of breath and doctors have to put her on a ventilator to help her breathe normally.

Norhuda, a human resources executive, told the New Straits Times today that doctors had recommended corrective surgery for Nur Haisha at Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur. They live in Rawang, Selangor.

Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur consultant paediatrician Dr Chan Tee Ling alerted the parents that their daughter required ASD closure surgery immediately, which could treat her condition and allow her to live a normal life.

"I've spent most of my days with my daughter at the hospital. I'm tired of spending so much time there," said Norhuda.

Norhuda and her husband Mufrin Mat Isa, 27, who is an administrative officer, urgently require RM50,000 for their daughter's surgery.

The couple collectively earn RM3,700 and cannot afford the medical bill.

"I appeal to members of the public for help and thank them in advance. I am hoping my daughter can undergo surgery soon," she said.

Nurhuda said the Medical Social Work Department at HTA supported the couple by providing milk formula every six months as well as a tube machine for feeding Nor Haisha.

Those who wish to help may send donations via cheques made payable to the Media Prima-NSTP Humanitarian Fund to the Group Corporate Communications Department, Media Prima Bhd, Level 4, Anjung Riong, Balai Berita, 31, Jalan Riong, 59100 Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, with the patient's name written on the reverse side.

Donations can also be channelled to the fund's Maybank current account 5141 0532 3170, indicating the patient's name on the recipients' reference or other payment details section.
