Obey leaders as long as they don't go against Islamic law - Friday sermon

KUALA LUMPUR: The Friday sermon today called on Muslims to accept, obey and support whoever will be appointed as leaders in the 15th General Election tomorrow, as long as their actions do not go against Islamic law.

Muslims were also reminded to fulfil their voting responsibility to ensure that the country remains peaceful and prosperous under the leadership of competent leaders.

The sermon titled "Call to Preserve Prosperity" prepared by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) was also read out by the Islamic affairs officer of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council Mohd Azrul Ismail at Masjid Ibnu Sina, Titiwangsa here.

According to the sermon, the people must continue to pray that they are led by leaders who are righteous, trustworthy, responsible, and visionary and who will remain faithful to the people and country.

"Stop all negative behaviour such as causing provocation, spreading slander, making offensive remarks and so on. Let us unite as Malaysian citizens who love peace and prosperity," it said.

The sermon also called for efforts to develop and strengthen prosperity to be intensified, including creating political stability, putting an end to conflicts and disputes, and fostering the spirit of patriotism and love of the country.

The leaders should work hard and act honestly to govern the country and empower the economy, while the people should maintain unity and avoid division because the multi-racial society adds to the uniqueness of Malaysia as a sovereign country, the sermon said.

Meanwhile, through the sermon entitled "Election: Choosing the Leaders" prepared by the Perak Islamic Religious Department, Muslims are urged not to vote for those involved in corruption and breach of trust.

According to the sermon, voters must find out whether the individual is capable of raising dignity and bringing prosperity to the country, in addition to having a clean image and being free from corruption.

The sermon also reminded Muslims to be determined to reject corruption by not allowing themselves to be bribed to choose a candidate. – BERNAMA
