Flash floods strike two villages in Raub

RAUB: Sixty people were evacuated to two temporary evacuation centres (PPS) after flash floods struck Felda Tersang and Kampung Tersang near here.

Raub Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Captain (PA) Samasuddin Kambade said the victims from 13 families were moved to Felda Tersang hall and SK Tersang in stages from 7pm onwards yesterday.

"Heavy rain which lasted for several hours saw Sungai Kenong burst its banks and inundating the low-lying settlements. The villagers alerted APM and with the assistance from the police, fire and rescue department and welfare department, we made arrangements to evacuate them.

"Forty-six people from 10 families are currently at Felda Tersang Hall while 14 others from three families are at the SK Tersang PPS which began operations early today," he said in a statement.

Samasuddin said the agency was still monitoring the weather and the villagers will remain at the PPS until it is safe for them to return to clean their homes.
