16 express bus passengers injured in crash

JASIN: Sixteen out of 27 passengers, including Singaporeans, were injured after the express bus they were travelling in crashed into the rear of a trailer at KM179, North-South Expressway (Plus), heading north, early this morning.

Jasin Bestari Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Operations Officer, Senior Fire Officer II Azman Md Dawam said they received a call on the accident at 3.57am.

According to him, a fire tender with nine members including two from BBP Jasin Bestari's Emergency Service Unit Team (EMRS) was rushed to the accident location for rescue operation. They were also assisted by eight members from BBP Tangkak, Johor.

"Upon arriving at the location at 4.10am it was found that the express bus slammed into the rear of a trailer truck carrying a load of recyclable materials.

"There were 27 passengers, of which 16 were reported to have suffered minor injuries while 11 were unhurt.

"All the injured victims were given initial treatment and sent to the hospital by ambulance and EMRS to receive further treatment," he said.

He said, the operation ended at 5.20 this morning.
