Arab diplomats, Yemen and Somalia leaders congratulate Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Congratulatory messages are still pouring in for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with the Arab Diplomatic Corps in Malaysia, as well as the prime ministers of Yemen and Somalia, conveying their felicitations to the newly appointed Malaysian prime minister.

Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps in Malaysia Dr Adel Mohamed Ali Ba Hamid hoped that Anwar will play a constructive role in developing the deeply rooted relations of brotherhood and cooperation between Muslim-majority countries in areas of mutual concern.

Dr Adel, who is also the ambassador of the Republic of Yemen, said he was confident that Anwar, 75, will successfully steer his unity government to the end of its term.

"On behalf of the Arab Diplomatic Corps in Malaysia, and on my own behalf, I would like to convey my warmest congratulations and sincere felicitations to Your Excellency (Anwar) on the success of the 15th General Election in Malaysia and the appointment of Your Excellency (Anwar) by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong as the 10th prime minister of Malaysia.

"Our sincere do'a and prayers to Allah to grant Your Excellency good health, wellbeing, and success, and for Malaysia's continued progress, growth, and prosperity," he said in a statement made available through the Arab Ambassadors' Council Kuala Lumpur.

Yemen prime minister Dr Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed and Somalia prime minister Hamza Abdi Barre also conveyed their congratulatory messages to Anwar and prayed for Malaysia's progress.

In his message, Maeen also expressed his hope that the fraternal relationship between Yemen and Malaysia will remain intact and that the bilateral relationship between the two countries in various fields will be strengthened for the sake of common interests.

Barre, meanwhile, said it was his conviction that under Anwar's leadership, the existing friendly relations between Mogadishu and Kuala Lumpur will flourish and gain strength, delivering mutual benefits for their peoples.

Barre, who is a graduate of the International Islamic University Malaysia, said Somalia and Malaysia shared a longstanding and substantive relationship reinforced by their strong historic ties and robust trade and cultural cooperation.

"We attach great importance to the development of our relations to enhance the depth and extent of our bilateral cooperation and expand them to new and emerging areas." - Bernama
