Johor hails Anwar's appointment as PM [NSTTV]

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor State Assembly has hailed Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's historic appointment as the country's 10th prime minister.

State Assembly Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi congratulated the Pakatan Harapan chairman on the appointment in his opening speech today.

He said this during the fourth meeting of the 15th Johor State Assembly at Kota Iskandar here today.

The appointment comes after a decade-long wait for the leader.

The results of the 15th General Election on Nov 19 triggered an unprecedented hung parliament and an ensuing five-day post election election crisis from which the PKR president emerged on top.

Anwar was sworn in as PM on November 24 after gaining the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah seal of approval to assume to role.

The 15th General Election (GE15) saw PH win 82 seats; Perikatan Nasional 73 seats; Barisan Nasional (30); Gabungan Parti Sarawak (23); Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (6); Warisan (3); independent (two) while Parti Bangsa Malaysia and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) won one seat each.

Meanwhile, Mohd Puad who is also the Rengit assemblyman also congratulated the Benut (BN) assemblyman, Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad for winning the Simpang Renggam parliamentary seat.
