[Live Update] Anwar unveils cabinet line-up

PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced his Cabinet line-uptonight.

The announcement ends days of speculation on the composition of the Cabinet for the unity government comprising Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and other partners to the federal administration.

Earlier in the morning, he had an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Anwar, Malaysia's 10th prime minister, was sworn in on Nov 24. He had announced that the unity government would see a smaller cabinet composition.


8.40pm: Anwar said all the ministers will be sworn in before the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong at 3pm tomorrow.


8.32pm: Anwar also announced that Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) former president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican will lead a team of advisors to advise the government, especially in matters related to the country's finances.

He added that measures to reduce the burden of the people and ways to stimulate the economy are top of the list of priorities of the Cabinet.

Anwar added that his Cabinet would continue to focus on good governance and eradicating corruption and abuse of power.


8.30pm: Anwar said the deputy ministers will be announced at a later date.

Earlier, he said that he will convene a special cabinet meeting on Monday, and that he would introduce "new rules" on ways to manage the ministry, how to work together with civil servants, ways for cabinet ministers to make announcements on policies, and proper expenditure management to avoid overspending.


8.20pm: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today that he will also serve as the country's the finance minister portfolio.

He made the announcement during a press conference at the Perdana Putra Complex, in Putrajaya today.

-- Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chief whip Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof have been appointed as deputy prime ministers for the country's first unity government.

- PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has been appointed Economic Affairs Minister under the newly-set up Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Apart from that, he also announced that:
- Local Government Development Minister: Nga Kor Ming
- Health Minister: Dr Zaleha Mustafa
- Defence Minister: Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan
- Higher Education: Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin
- Education Minister: Fadhlina Sidek
- Communication and Digital Minister: Fahmi Fadzil

5.45pm: Cabinet line-up announcement has been postponed to 8.15pm.


4.30pm: The Prime Minister's Department informed that the Anwar is expected to announce his Cabinet line-up at 5pm.


2.20pm: PM Anwar set to announce his cabinet line-up this evening.

Bernama in a news flash quoted Anwar as saying that the newly-sworn in cabinet members would also attend a special meeting on Monday.

Earlier today, members of the press had learnt that a press conference would be held in Putrajaya later this evening.


12.35pm: Anwar arrived in Tanjung Rambutan, near his parliamentary constituency Tambun, for a short visit.

He was earlier greeted by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and State Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim upon his arrival at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport.


10.50am: Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah granted an audience to Anwar at Istana Kinta here.

The audience began at 10.50am and lasted about an hour. The car carrying the prime minister was spotted leaving the palace at noon.


9.15am: A Proton Perdana with the prime minister in it was seen exiting through the palace's main gate at 9.15am after a 50-minute audience with the King.

Anwar waved to the almost-40 media personnel who had been waiting at the main gate as early as 7.30 am.


8.22am: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

The car carrying Anwar was seen entering the palace grounds through Gate 1 at 8.22 am.
