Set up RCI to probe RM600 billion expenditure - Isham Jalil

KUALA LUMPUR: A Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) must be established immediately to investigate the alleged RM600 billion expenditure during Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's premiership.

Umno Information chief Isham Jalil said Perikatan Nasional (PN) also must be prepared to go through legal process to prove that they are clean and are corruption free.

Isham, an Umno Supreme Council (MT) member, said he personally supports the proposal to establish a RCI as it can prove where and how the money was spent during the Movement Control Order (MCO) and Covid-19 emergency proclamation during Muhyiddin's time.

"Yesterday there was a police report made about the RM600 billion and I think this matter needs to be clarified. RM600 billion is a large amount.

"The federal budget itself is only RM300 billion (a year), this is equivalent to two years of the federal budget. We didn't get a chance to question this because the Parliment was closed and the nation was under the emergency order, at that time.

"So, now is the time that we want answers on where the funds went. Plus, PN also seemed to have spent lavishly for the General Election, raising more doubts," he said last night in a live Facebook broadcast video clip lasting 11 minutes and 9 seconds.

The clip is believed to have been recorded at the Pianggu voting district (PDM) at Tioman last night.

Previously, the Parti Amanah Negara (AMANAH) Election machinary chief, Sany Hamzan, also pushed for the RCI to investigate the spending involving RM600 billion in emergency fund.

Sany, who is also a member of the Hulu Langat Parliament, had also lodged a police report regarding the matter at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters here on Nov 30.

The controversy regarding the RM600 billion emergency funds spent for Covid-19 pandemic was initially raised by the former Melaka Chief Minister Adly Zahari on Nov 15.

Adly had said that Pakatan Harapan (PH) would investigate Muhyiddin if the party's coalition succeeded in forming a government after GE15.

Muhyiddin, however, insisted that all the money was spent to help during the pandemic and that he was not worried or afraid if anyone wanted to investigate because according to him all expenses were undertaken in accordance to the set procurement policy.
