Finance Ministry to have new secretary-general

PUTRAJAYA: A new Finance Ministry secretary-general is to be appointed soon to replace Datuk Seri Asri Hamidin.

Though Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim did not specifically announce that Asri is to be replaced, he made a passing remark that pointed to this.

This is when he said the role of the new Finance Ministry advisers will be determined after consultation with the ministry's senior officers and its new secretary-general.

Anwar said this at a press conference after clocking in as finance minister and holding a meeting with senior officials. However, Arsi was not present and it is understood he has been placed on leave.

On the advisers, the prime minister said he would also be discussing their roles with former Petronas president and chief executive Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican.

"I will have to discuss with Hassan the terms of reference, parameters and priorities of the advisers," he said.

When announcing his cabinet last week, Anwar had said there would be a team of advisers to assist him as finance minister. The team would be led by Hassan.
