Penang Bridge to temporarily close on Sunday for international marathon

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Bridge will be temporarily closed to traffic for the Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) this Sunday.

The closure will be from 12am until 10am.

PLUS Malaysia Bhd said in a statement the bridge would operate as usual from 10am upon the completion of the event.

"As such, PLUS advises all motorists to use the Sultan Abdul Halim Muad'zam Shah Bridge (Second Penang Bridge) as an alternative and follow all on-site instructions.

"PLUS also wishes to thank all highway users for their attention and cooperation."

For traffic updates or assistance during emergencies, highway users can contact PLUSLine at 1800-88-0000.

PBIM, the largest annual sports event in the northern peninsula, made a comeback after a two-year hiatus.

The race categories include Full Marathon (42km), Half Marathon (21km) and 10km Run (Open/Junior), with the maximum capacity capped at 25,000 runners.
