'There aren't enough eggs, I saw it for myself' - Minister Salahuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub found out there was a low supply of subsidised eggs and subsidised 1kg polybag cooking oil in the market.

He discovered this during his surprise visits to grocery shops and markets in Putrajaya today.

Salahuddin went to the ground unannounced, accompanied only by his driver and an officer.

"I kept those in the ministry, including the enforcement division, in the dark as I did not want my visits to turn into a festive event.

"I found out that there was a low supply of subsidised grade A, B and C eggs as well as the subsidised 1kg polybag cooking oil in the retail market," he said in a statement.

The minister said he would meet with the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry tomorrow regarding the supply of subsidised eggs in the market.

"Also, I will instruct the ministry's enforcement division to resolve the issue related to the subsidised 1kg polybag cooking oil."
