Sources: MACC to call in Sany Hamzan soon over RM600 billion issue

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will be meeting Parti Amanah Negara mobilisation bureau chief Sany Hamzan "in the very near future".

Sources said the commission wanted to obtain information, including documents concerning claims on the alleged mishandling of expenditure of close to RM600 billion during the administration of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"MACC wants the evidence that Sany claims he has on breach of procedures in the handling of the funds meant for the public during the Covid-19 pandemic and movement control order," said a source.

Sany was the first person to make the allegations and had claimed to be in possession of evidence of the mishandling of the funds.

He had said he was ready to hand over the evidence to any authority investigating the matter. He had also lodged a police report on Nov 30.

In a statement earlier, MACC had urged anyone with proof or information concerning the allegations to facilitate investigations.

"Any such individual should come to the nearest MACC office and if need be, the MACC can despatch officers to retrieve any information and documents," the statement said.
