Religious affairs minister respects PM's decision not to appoint a deputy

PUTRAJAYA: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar respects Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's decision not to appointment a deputy minister for his portfolio.

Na'im said not having a deputy minister would not affect his ability to work.

"It is the prime minister's prerogative. I respect the prime minister's decision.

"As I have mentioned before, this (being made a minister) is a big responsibility. It is an even greater one without a deputy minister. We will do our best to shoulder it," he said after officiating the Islamic Development Department's (Jakim) Munaqasyah Sekretariat Dakwah Korporat 2022 programme here today.

Present was Jakim director-general Datuk Hakimah Mohd Yusoff.

Yesterday, Anwar announced the appointment of 27 deputy ministers.

He had said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah had consented to the appointments.

Anwar did not announce deputy ministers for religious affairs under the Prime Minister's Department or the National Unity Ministry.

On the programme, Na'im, in his speech, said he hoped it would produce high-impact corporate dakwah products that would raise the image and prestige of the country's dakwah management.
