SERDANG: Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa is still waiting for updates on the claim about the alleged misappropriation of RM600 billion in Covid-19 funds.
The minister said a meeting will would soon be held to discuss the matter, although she had yet to get an update regarding the actual amount of money that was allegedly misused.
"On the (alleged) RM600 billion (issue), we are still waiting for the Health Ministry to provide updates. Only then can we find out how much funds were actually misused.
"I am sorry that I cannot answer this at the moment because I have yet to get a full briefing on the matter.
"We will have a meeting in one or two days to discuss the important issues pertaining to the ministry, and this will includi the allegation on the misuse of that RM600 billion in Covid-19 funds," she told reporters after the launch of the Heart Centre at Serdang Hospital here.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had said that the Finance Ministry officials had confirmed there were serious expenditure violations involving RM600 billion expenditure during the administration under of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Following this, The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) later also confirmed that it had received details on the breakdown of funds spent by the government on the economic stimulus packages spent by the government in 2020 and 2021 from the Finance Ministry.
MACC had said the investigation into the alleged misappropriation would focus on a sum of the RM92.5 billion that came directly from the government.
The agency had said initial investigations found that the case involved an allocation of RM530 billion, and of that, RM92.5 billion was from the government and RM437.5 billion was not.
